This is not a Game
Today I received a White House email from David Axelrod regarding the legislative battle to enact healthcare reform. It had the most excellent subject heading, “This isn’t a game”. These guys in the Obama administration really do get it. (Click “Read More” at the bottom of this post to see the text of Axelrod’s email.)
As I mentioned in my previous post, healthcare and profiteering are inherently incompatible. Those who aim to profit from other’s illness and injury are bound to serve profits before people. To assert otherwise is so blatantly untenable, that those with vested interest in such profiteering must do so by evasion. A favorite method is to cast the debate in terms of a game by which the public’s attention is diverted from the real issues of their own survival and toward an entertaining contest of wills. The media have been most complicitous in fostering the game mentality.
I would like to offer some compelling argument that would sway people to actively support that which moves our nation toward universal healthcare, but what could I possibly say that is not already patently obvious? Our healthcare system today is no system at all. It is a disorganized jumble of resources being exploited, monopolized, and allocated by people who are scheming to extract the greatest return on the use of those resources. That’s Capitalism for you, but in this case, your life and my life depend on access to those resources.
It’s as simple as saying to a man treading water at the deep end of the pool, “Sooner or later you’re going to lose the ability to keep treading. Before that happens, swim this way to the shallow water”. To which he replies, “No thanks, I’ll just keep treading water out here with the rest of these fools until I’m too weak to swim anywhere.”
Subject: This isn’t a game
Dear Friend,
Last night, President Obama addressed the nation in a primetime press conference about health insurance reform.
The President made crystal clear what’s at stake in this debate: the fiscal well-being of our nation and the health of our families and small businesses.
In case you missed it, take a look at what he had to say:
Truth be told — with each passing day, more and more Americans are unable to get the health care they need, when they need it. Skyrocketing co-pays and deductibles and soaring insurance premiums are crushing our family budgets and small businesses. Unless we act now, these problems are guaranteed to get worse and worse.
Under reform, American families will get the stability and security they deserve. They’ll no longer have to fear losing health care coverage if they lose or switch jobs, going bankrupt if they become seriously ill, or being denied coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition. Reform will ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable insurance.
We all have a stake in this and for the 14,000 Americans who are losing their health insurance each day — reform can’t wait.
Make sure everyone you know understands the importance and urgency of health insurance reform: Watch the President’s remarks and forward this email to your friends and family.
Thank you,
David Axelrod
P.S. Health insurance reform is a complex issue and many of you have questions about what it means for you and your family. Why not pass the ‘Health’ Bill Mr. Obama?
You’ve already proven yourself a Socialist and anti-American by giving private companies our federal money, which of course is against the United States Constitution.
The speed with which this country has converted from a Republic to a scared, disoriented, whining little Socialist State is nothing short of amazing.
Make it so we can afford the health care of our own choosing. Your current ‘Health Care’ Bill which will force seniors to go through ‘counseling’ every 5 years advising them of the best way to die is nothing short of sicking. (On page 425 of the ‘Health’ Bill.)
As it is, we are the laughing stock of the world because of the actions of (especially) the last two Presidents of this country.
It used to be that the world thought our streets were paved with gold and we all drove Cadillacs. Now our streets may as well be paved with dollars because they are the cheapest commodity out there. Want more? Just call the Federal Reserve and order up a batch!
We have no goals. We have no heroes. We have no leaders to protect us.
Continue the way you have and prove yourself to be even more of a hard-line Socialist.
Or prove yourself to be an American Sir, and get the United States WORKING again.
PS: Anyone who is so anti-American that they intentionally destroy their own, and my country is no friend of mine.
I couldn’t resist approving the comment by Anymoose. Could anyone be more confused? His/her rant demonstrates no knowledge of the US Constitution, which does not restrict giving private companies money.
One of the reasons the US is the laughing stock of the world is that we have sunk to the bottom of the list of all measures of healthcare efficacy — infant mortality, longevity, cost, and quality of life.
Anymoose is a fine example of the delusional thinking that is destroying this nation.
