“Unsafe at Any Dose”

Today Dr. Helen Caldicott  writes in a NYT Op Ed,

“…when I first heard about the reactor damage at the Fukushima Daiichi plant in Japan, I knew the prognosis: If any of the containment vessels or fuel pools exploded, it would mean millions of new cases of cancer in the Northern Hemisphere.”

We make choices and every choice entails some level of risk. Given what we know and don’t know about the short and long term risks of nuclear power generation, Cosmo hit the nail on the head.

There was a young lady of Niger
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger;
They returned from the ride
With the lady inside,
And the smile on the face of the tiger.
